Here is my week 2 in review:
This week I continued teaching full time and have continued to get positive feedback from my coaching teacher. Student engagement has remained high and my effort at building relationships with them has paid off.
I taught one formally observed lesson this week, a math lesson on Thursday. All of my math lessons this week (I teach math every day) went well. I have started exploring number talks and a lot more discussion with partners (instead of the usual 5 students always calling out the answers). I have seen a huge change in my students thinking as they are given the time to discuss and think about new ideas.
English Language Arts – I have continued my novel study and I am trying out new things in these lessons. My coaching teacher gave me a great book ‘Grand Conversations, Thoughtful Responses’ and I have been experimenting with some of the concepts and activities in this book (especially responsive journaling).
Science – Continued my inquiry based unit plan on the moon! Students are still working on their moon journals and we have had great discussions as they start to notice the patterns forming (phases). I also did a successful demonstration of the moon phases (video on my twitter if you want to see what my students saw).
We concluded the week with a self reflection on the SMART goals they set last week (based on the core competencies and tied to my Hogwarts unit). (Gryffindor’s won the quidditch cup as well 😊).
I continued collaborating with the librarian and participated in maker space during my PREP time on Friday (makey makey).
I arranged with the Ab Ed educator (Ms. Dory) to come in and do a great lesson/puppet show about courage for my students.
Continued participating in the SOGI club. We filled water balloons with water and food colouring and put them outside in the extreme cold
weather (-30 most of the week). The water froze into coloured orbs of ice. IT was a lot of fun and the SOGI club enjoyed it.
I also participated in the school staff meeting, and started collaborating with other teachers in the building.
Excited for week 3!
