This was a jammed packed week with lots of learning; I have been teaching full days all week.
Some Highlights:
– For Art, IΒ did dropped paint germs. I made paint of a variety of consistencies and dropped them onto paper. Then the students used motions/forces to move the paint around and make germs. It connected Art with Health (germs) and Science (forces and motions). The end results are so cool and the students had a blast!
– I attended a school based team meeting to discuss a student on her way to getting an IEP. It was really interesting to sit in on that meeting and hear how these th
– In my observed ADST lesson, I combined the science forces and we created catapults to shoot pom poms! Then we had a competition to see whose catapult would shoot a pompom the furthest!
–
In math, I hid dozens of dots around the room (on the ceiling, on my back, etc) and students did a scavenger hunt. It was a great way to introduce bar graphs to them and they had a blast!
– In social studies I did an observed lesson on community. I had students sit in a circle and share something about themselves. My learning intention was “our diversity makes us strong”. Then I gave
Β every student a blank jigsaw puzzle piece to fill in with whatever makes them special/unique. I will be combining all of the puzzle pieces into one big picture to represent how we all join together to create our classroom community!
– I taught a PE lesson based on First Nations games (animals). It was really great! This was not a requirement of my placement, I had coordinated with the school’s gym teacher to plan this lesson!
– I also started working more on formal assessment and checking in with students one on one and taking quick notes. I did this during lunch when I asked students to show me something in their lunch from each food group. This allowed me to scan the students knowledge and decide how to continue my health unit on healthy eating.
Lots of great learning!
